Synopsis What began as a case of food poisoning in a London sushi restaurant has escalated into a political spectacle of treachery and intrigue on a scale not seen since the Cold War. Aleksandr Litvinenko, a former member of the Russian secret service, succumbed to confirmed polonium-210 radiation poisoning on November 23, 2006. Two years earlier, he had shared his secrets and named his likely assassins to the filmmaker Jos de Putter. In an arresting interview, Litvinenko details his time with the secret police, his experience in Chechnya, his work with murdered journalist Anna Politkovskaya and his searing investigation into a series of Russian bomb attacks that led to Vladimir Putin's electoral victory. Chechnya's exiled leader Akhmed Zakayev and the prominent Russian exile Vladmir Bukovsky corroborate the alarming risk of Litvinenko's work. Political intrigue has since mounted, but so has the emotional toll of Litvinenko's murder. His widow Marina and his father Walter's emotional offerings expose the suffering of his death and the Litvinenko family's forced life of exile. Sensational and chilling, de Putter crafts an explosive portrait of one of the world's now most famous spies.
