Synopsis
Yassin is from Afghanistan. He is 17, maybe 18 years old. Because of the despairing and humiliating conditions in his homeland, Yassin set off on a solitary and painful journey into the unknown, which took him illegally to France. Since his arrival in Paris, which is so alien to him, the so-called 'Unaccompanied Refugee Minor', to employ the jargon, has had only one dream: to finally obtain papers which will legalise his situation and put an end to his refugee status.
My Dreams Never Lie tells the story of a boy hoping to find a place where he can exist without fearing for his life. He waits for the decision that will tell him whether France is just another stop or the end of his journey. In the meantime, his life continues as usual: the camera follows Yassin to school and shows him talking to other foreign teenagers. Filmmaker Didier Cros ponders the question whether young people can adapt more easily than older ones. He approaches his protagonist with great perceptiveness and renders not only Yassins everyday life, but also his thoughts, dreams, and memories.
