Synopsis

Kanbrik ou le proscrit d'AllahA young man ponders the loss of his lover. A poetic reflection about persecution and the fight against homophobia unfolds, accompanied by the calls of the muezzin.
Shot on grainy 16-mm film, Hervé Joseph Lebrun's filmic poem conveys the sensuality and the longing of a love relationship, but it also manages to impart the emotions connected to the leaving of a lover and the fear of persecution.
Thus, this very intimate and personal story is also an elegiac indictment of the fact that there are still countries where homosexuality is punishable by death: In Iran, Yemen, Sudan, Saudi-Arabia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Mauretania and Nigeria, men and women are still sentenced to death because of their sexual identity. In the course of a few years, more than 5.000 gays and lesbians were killed in Iran alone.
